D.C. bars, coffeeshops, and other 'third places'
In his 1989 book, The Great Good Place, Ray Oldenburg introduced the concept of the "third place" — a venue different from one's home or work that facilitates creative interaction. We at TBD think the ideal third place is an aesthetically pleasing, roomy spot with plenty of seating and access to caffeine and/or alcohol. Here are a few of the best such spots in the District.
