Del Rey's Pork Barrel BBQ opens today
In 2008, Pork Barrel BBQ founders Heath Hall and Brett Thompson released their company's first product — the All-American Spice Rub. The brand has grown, and since 2009 Hall and Thompson have teamed up as competitive barbecuers, beginning with the Safeway National Capital Barbecue Battle in D.C. They even have their own fragrance, "Que." The Alexandria restaurant, which opens today, is another first for the company.
The restaurant belonging to this cooking station, Chop Chop, will be fast and casual with no table service. Most entrees will cost less than $10. The temperature of this wok can reach about 800 degrees and can cook an entree in around a minute.
