Behind the counter at the Black Cat
The Black Cat's Food for Thought cafe feeds bands and fans alike every day. The menu's filled with meat, vegetarian, and vegan items, including fresh baked goods by the café's owner. TBD photographer Joshua Yospyn got a backstage look at operations in the kitchen this past weekend. Check here for more of our "anti-Restaurant Week" coverage.
On Friday night, Shintaro Doi, 27, was working the Black Cat entrance and nibbling on nachos from Food For Thought, which is through the door at left. Asked about keeping the cafe open during the day, Dante said he's considered a weekend brunch, when foot traffic peaks in the neighborhood, but otherwise it would require a "fair amount of labor for a small amount of business." For example, Food For Thought doesn't have its own front door, so someone would have to police the club's main entrance.
