Chinese New Year parade in D.C.: Year of the Dragon kicks off in Chinatown (photos)

Thousands came out Sunday to celebrate the Chinese New Year and determine their fortune, including martial artists, D.C. politicians, marching bands, and someone wearing panda bear makeup.

Nearly 40,000 lined the streets of Chinatown on Sunday afternoon for an annual parade celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year 4710 and the year of the Dragon. The event is hosted by the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association, which represents 30 Chinese-American organizations throughout the metropolitan D.C. area.
