Maine Avenue Fish Market: Fresh fish for sale under a D.C. bridge
Each day, fishmongers at the Maine Avenue Fish Market sell their wares, both fresh and cooked, for prices lower than those at D.C. grocery stores.
Jones caught this catfish in the Potomac River channel during our visit to a dock near the fish market. The D.C. Department of the Environment says not to eat catfish, carp, or eel caught in the Potomac and Anacostia rivers and their tributaries. DDOE instead encourages "catch and release," although there are several fish, like largemouth bass, that they say are OK to consume on a limited basis.
