Barefoot 5K takes Maryland
Running is hard enough. Running barefoot? Well, people took to the streets for a Barefoot 5K on Sunday. The race was done in partnership with the charity Soles4Souls and local charity Teens Run D.C.
Even though it was billed as a barefoot or minimalist shoe event, very few people out of the starting gate went shoe free. D.C. resident Avery Nielsen, 25, finished eighth in the 5k but at 21:10 was the first barefoot runner to cross the line.
