Getting elevated: The Ring Building's elevator operators
It's insight into the world behind something that we all use so often: elevators. But how about their operators? Take a look.
Cleveland Johnson is one of eight licensed elevator operators who work at the Ring Building at the corner of 18th and M streets NW. It's "like being a cab driver," he said, describing his job as passengers come and go during a Tuesday lunch hour in May. Elevator operators have worked here since the building first opened in 1947.
