Experience
I grew up in the shadow of New York AM radio towers when AM was king.. I found folk music (and learned to play the guitar) and fthen salvation in Underground FM. I arrived at Bard College in time for May Day and Watergate,. By the mid-1970s, I ended up with a graduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, a gig as Saturday/Sunday night host on WUNC-FM (50,000 watts) in a free-form format, and an interracial rock/jazz/folk jam band that was far ahead of its time. In 1985, with a Ph.D. in Communication Arts from the University of Wisconsin, I embarked on a long career of teaching media (including audio production and music industry), publishing in academic journals on popular music recording, and writing/playing/recording my music for select friends.
I am currently Associate Professor of Communication at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne. My academic life and my music can be found at http://users.ipfw.edu/tankel. Check it out!
