About Me

I've been a freelance journalist since 1990. I specialize in health, medicine (mainstream and alternative), nutrition, fitness, and sexuality.

I grew up in a Long Island suburb of New York. Went to U. of Michigan. Met my wife there. We've lived in San Francisco since 1975. She's a doctor, family practitioner. We have two kids, a son, 21, and a daughter, 17. He's graduating from college. She's entering.

I take 3 yoga classes a week. I enjoy movies, theater, reading (fiction and nonfiction), and music (rock, jazz, R&B, blues). For many years, I have attended the San Francisco Blues Festival, the SF Jazz Festival and JazzFest in New Orleans.

I shoot pool weekly. (I suck, but every now and then....) For years, my wife and I were avid downhill skiers. These days, we ski less, but still enjoy it. Before children, we loved scuba diving. But with kids, it became too complicated. When our daughter leaves for college (Fall 2008), we're planning a dive trip.

Finally, for 35 years, I have pursued a personal passion, writing fiction. My first novel is a mystery, The Lost Gold of San Francisco (2003). The second, Death Caps, was published in 2007.
