You might consider writing him a note and leaving it where he'll find it. Say something like: I REALLY love you, but.... then lay out your complaint as kindly as possible. Don't put anything on him. Say something like: I'm feeling kinda bored. Then make a few suggestions and ask him to select one of them or more to play with. Writing a note eliminates some of the awkwardness of these conversations. You can take as much time as you want to say exactly what you want to say. Then all you have to ask is: Have you thought about my note?
