Say This:

OK, here's a thought, because we can't force anyone to change any habits they don't want to change already. So up the ante a little bit. Make him desire good hygiene and take off the weight slowly by...

Every night before supper, the two of you take a nice little walk around the block. Tell him you want a few minutes each day alone with him, and that you already have it worked out. Arrange it to be so. No kids, just you and him. If you need a neighbor to sit the kids, work that out somehow for one hour an evening when your hubby gets home.

Then, after your walk, ask him if he wants to take a shower... WITH YOU. Make it enticing, but the shower is part of the deal.

See if you can alter the behavior without ever having to use any negative image talk. You will both tone up, hygiene is improved immediately, and the bonus time together spent talking first and then, uh, bonding together is worth... whatever it costs for the sitter.

Perhaps he just needs a little retraining back to good physique and good hygiene. Perhaps if he SUBCONSCIOUSLY make the connection that good hygiene gets quality time between the sheets... it could work.

Best wishes to you both for a happy future!
