No one wants to do it. But sometimes you just have to. Since weight is directly related to health, better to express your concerns in the context of health rather than appearance. Your partner will hear the message if it's delivered with a show of love and concern, and that he is not alone with the problem. Also know that stress can lead to weight gain..so you might want to explore what you can do to help reduce that pressure. Say This:"Honey, I've noticed that you've been under a lot of pressure lately and it looks like you may have put on some weight, and it really concerns me. Your doctor has already told us you could face sleep apnea or heart trouble if you don't get your weight under control. I know it's easy to lose sight of these things when you're under pressure at work but you need to know that your health is critical not only to you but to me and our kids. We need you healthy because we don't want to lose you. Is there anything I can do to make things less stressful?" |
