Do's and Don'ts:

Don't be defensive or phrase it like it's time to "even the score." Present the idea as a continuation of your life together.

Do your homework. Know your monthly budget and present that as a goal for revenue.

Don't whine. No one likes a whiner.

Say This:

Sweetie, I've really enjoyed my career, but I'm getting anxious to spend more time at home with the children. I feel like they need me now more than ever, and I'd like to have the time and opportunity to be with them. I think we should consider the financial impact that a reduced work load would have on our household and I'd like to work together to create a plan to transition the financial responsibility and free up some of my time.
