Montgomery College in-state tuition for illegal immigrants upheld, lawsuit tossed

A hopeless lawsuit against Montgomery College for allowing undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition has been dismissed by a county judge. The suit was filed by Judicial Watch, a conservative (and sometimes frighteningly influential) watchdog group, and was dismissed "with prejudice," which basically means it's dead forever. ¡Vamos a festejar!

Three Maryland public interest groups have filed a lawsuit to block a 2012 voter referendum that would repeal the state's DREAM Act, which allows some undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition.

Safe Communities program will include D.C., Montgomery County

Montgomery County and Washington, D.C. have decided not to delay the inevitable, and will voluntarily join the controversial Safe Communities program, which creates a fingerprint database of "those who pose a threat to public safety, and repeat immigration violators," according to its website. The program has also been accused, however, of deporting petty criminals and even responsible non-citizens who report crimes.

Jose Antonio Vargas, the former Post reporter who recently revealed — in the New York Times, because the Post, oddly, passed on the opportunity — that he's an undocumented immigrant, had told his secret to around 50 people a month before the Times published his story. Not a single one of them, including a journalist, leaked the news.
