Mindful of the pending deadline on Christmas wishes, The List asks Washingtonians for their greatest wish for the city this year. She will be electronically sending Santa a link to the things residents most want for Washington.

More Montreal-like festivities
“Have you been to Montreal?” asks John Quinones. “Oh my God, you go there and there are three festivals going on. It brings people right down into the city. I wish we had a block party.”
-
Halt gentrification
“I don’t want D.C. to become a rich-person city,” says Alex, who grew up in Mount Pleasant and now lives in Shaw. “It all bothers me. I grew up with a lot of people whose parents had to move out of the city because they couldn’t afford it anymore.”
-
Continuing education reform
“I hope this new mayor continues the education reforms,” says William McGlashen. “I’m worried about this new mayor and feel it’s almost a throwback to the ‘70s.” McGlashen says he is neither pro-Fenty nor anti-Gray; he just wishes that people would stop saying “it’s for the children” and not mean it. “It’s cliché,” he says, “but they are the future.”
-
More late-night hangouts
“I wish places were open past, you know, 11,” says Lauren, who moved from New York this year. “Places that weren’t, like, a bar.”
-
More bike lanes
“I’ve been really happy with the bikeshare program,” says Aileen Carrigan, a recent San Francisco transplant. “I’d like to see more. More bike lanes. More of the same, I guess.”
-
Less segregated neighborhoods
Emily feels that Washingtonians of different backgrounds and races come together to work during the day but at night return to their separate neighborhoods. “It’s pretty segregated,” she says. “It’d be cool if it was a little more, I don’t know, unsegregated.”
-
A better Dulles
“There’s nothing I like about Dulles,” says Gareth Coville, who frequently flies internationally. Coville wishes it was closer to the city and that the security screenings were more efficient. He also wishes for less humidity in the metro area.

I love this List. You should send it to the Mayor/Santa Claus.

I wholly agree with #2, #4, and #6... This shouldn't be a city in which those earning what would be considered a decent living anywhere else is made to feel poor by not being able to afford living there. Also, yes, this city closes up shop WAY too early. I should be able to try a food truck later in the day than 4pm! And I also agree with the feeling of racial segregation. I am proud to have assembled a group of friends with all races, but when we go out, we are certainly the anomaly!

Dear Santa, For Christmas this year, Washingtonians would like a Metro system that is affordable, clean, safe and reliable. See what you can do to make that happen. kthnxbi.
