With the weather getting warmer The List is thinking about spending more time outside, and she doesn’t just mean while eating lunch or running to catch the Metro bus. Here are some area bike paths to explore when you want to enjoy the scenery or just look cute on that new pink bike.

Capital Crescent Trail
This 13 mile paved trail runs in place of old railroad tracks from Georgetown to Bethesda, then on crushed limestone the rest of the way to Silver Spring.

Chesapeake and Ohio Towpath
Running from D.C. to Cumberland, Maryland, this 184 mile natural surface trail runs along the Potomac beside historic sights from the C&O Canal.

Mount Vernon Trail
Very much a weekend adventure, this scenic paved trail runs 18 miles along the Potomac River to George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate.

Rock Creek Hiker/Biker Trail
A collection of paths that were linked together, this 20 mile paved trail runs through D.C. and Maryland by the National Zoo and numerous picnic spots.

Washington and Old Dominion Trail
This 45 mile paved trail is built on the rail bed of the Washington and Old Dominion rail bed and links Shirlington to Purcellville, Virginia.

D.C. has some of the greatest bike trails in the U.S. And I ride bike trails all over the U.S. as part of my "job."
