The Myers-Briggs test is a widely used self-assessment tool that tests aptitudes and interests. Many local colleges have night classes where you can sign up for this test.
Or, you can take a test on the Internet to provide you with some useful information. Assessment.com is one such site, and our Stage 1 Toolkit page lists several others.

Another venue you can try online is Google or your favorite search engine. Type in "career self-assessment." You'll get several listings of the different avenues you can pursue to figure out what will make you happiest.

What's the worst that could happen?
The assessment test will confirm the type of job where you will fit in most comfortably, and the answer it comes up with might not be the one you were hoping for. If you wind up in an industry that doesn't fire your rockets, chalk it up to part of the learning process and move on to a company, industry or department that you feel would be a better fit.
