Stage 4 Success Stories
Isn't That Special. . . ist?
It won't hurt to think like a specialist.

I have a friend who works as a customer engineer for Hewlett-Packard. He doesn't repair computers or widgets. He repairs only mass spectrometers.

That's it.

It doesn't seem to me that there would be enough mass spectrometers around to keep him busy, but he assures me that there are. And he doesn't repair just any old mass spectrometer either; he only works on one model, which, for argument's sake we'll call the 4000X. If you have a 5000X, he won't come to see you, but he will put you in touch with the 5000X guy.

The Fix Is In
This client is much in demand because he's very good at what he does. He got into the field because some years ago he talked to lots of people who told him that if he really wanted to nail down a good, lucrative position, he should think seriously about learning how to fix 4000Xs. That's what they'd do if they could do it all over again.

This client became very successful because he did his research, talked to experts in the field, and followed up on their advice to get more training.
